Luther was so angry at the church because he didn’t like the fact people were so willing to believe everything church officials were saying. The community didn’t have any form of text to interpret readings themselves and this frustrated Luther, he believed people should be able to interpret readings on their own as well. He was frustrated also because the poor were giving any penny they had to the church. The 95 Theses talk about the work done in life, this is what will grant them salvation, not through money. The theses also talk about the Pope and the clergy along with repentance. It is not the Pope that can help us repent but ourselves. These Theses also talk about how heaven and hell can be connected to fear, despair, etc. Luther uses Biblical text to prove his points. Luther’s goal is to help the community better understand what is being said to them and how to better act in their daily lives. Luther explains Christian teachings and how these also effect us daily and our judgement when the time comes. Luther’s Christian Liberty piece talks about the difficulties of being Christian along with the rewards. His view of Christian Liberty revolves around our actions and how they effect our inner and outer man. Luther focuses on how important word is and what a treasure it is to have faith in Christ. Luther touches upon what it means to rebel and deny God versus holding Him true. As Christians, when we pledge ourselves to Him we are essentially become free from sin with that faith. Luther then discusses the royalty whether that be in the church or in society which relates to the inestimable power/liberty of Christians. These roles however cannot be attained without faith. God’s victories are ours as well. Personally I think Luther was a key role to open people’s eyes to the world they were living in. I agree with his reasoning behind his thoughts and he even had text people understood to back himself up. Yes having a priest or someone explaining the text is great and is a tool that can help guide interpretation. However when we don’t have our own text to read and interpret the words to our own lessons, understandings, and tools to apply to our own lives how will it benefit every person. I do agree with Luther when it comes to redemption and money. In the end, after we die money goes nowhere. It is what we do and how we help the world and ourselves that makes the impact. I think Luther was able to relate to people despite angering some and help them realize what is important and how to live better day by day in the world they know.
